Were the Book of Mormon witnesses not "empirical" or "rational" because they lived in the 19th-Century during a time when "folk magic" was practiced?

Dar a entender que os homens do século XIX são intrinsecamente indignos de confiança é tanto um ad hominem (um ataque contra o caráter da pessoa que faz a declaração, em vez da declaração em si) e estabelece um padrão impossível de evidências do evangelho já que eles eram os únicos homens disponíveis como testemunhas na época.
