A FairMormon Analysis of FutureMissionary page "What if You Were an Investigator"

FAIRMORMON'S VIEW OF THE CRITICS' CONCLUSIONS

The positions that the FutureMissionary article "What if You Were an Investigator" appears to take are the following:

  • That missionaries should simply "be honest" with their investigators by knowing and answering any question having to do with Church history.

FAIRMORMON'S RESPONSE AND SUPPORTING DATA

The author(s) of FutureMissionary.com make(s) the following claim:

The site employs a rather offensive caricature of Catholicism to try and make a point by stating, "What’s really keeping you away from asking about his faith has nothing to do with being shy or averse to talking about God. It’s that all you’ve ever heard about Catholicism is pretty dark. Specifically, you can’t turn on the news without hearing about another Catholic priest who abused a child and the ensuing coverup." The site authors then liken this to Mormon missionaries by claiming "If you, as a missionary, are asked a tough question, it’s your duty to answer them. It’s the only way you can ever expect someone to trust you."

FAIR's Response

  • Missionaries should be guided by the spirit in how to answer questions, not try to explain every aspect of Church history.
