The key point here is that the details of God's mortality and existence before this life is largely unknown and not revealed, so we don't have an exact answer to this question.  But the question to ask is: "Does it really matter all that much?"  Whether it is true or it is not, does anything change?  Knowing details of God's previous mortality doesn't change the fact that our Heavenly Father is still our Heavenly Father, who loves us so very much.  He sent His first born son, Jesus Christ, to sacrifice Himself for us.  He wants us to be "Heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ".

With that said, once should consider the question, and ask yourself the question that if this is true, what changes. And above all, rely on the Spirit.  Recall James 1:5, that says that if any man lacks wisdom, let him ask of God.  And recall that in Moroni 10:5, that by the Spirit, he will show the truth of all things. Rely on God, and follow what He says.

== If God was once like us, does that mean that God was once a sinner?

Answer

The idea that God may once have been a sinner is speculation. Many, including Latter-day Saints, find the idea blasphemous. Latter-day Saints do not speculate on events that happened prior to Genesis 1:1.

With that said, once should consider the question, and ask yourself the question that if this is true, what changes? And above all, rely on the Spirit. Recall James 1:5, that says that if any man lacks wisdom, let him ask of God. And recall that in Moroni 10:5, that by the Spirit, he will show the truth of all things. Rely on God, and follow what He says.
