Critical questions

Common criticisms related to this lesson topic
Critics charge that the LDS doctrine of a "premortal existence" is pagan, unchristian, or unbiblical, and therefore false.

Response
Latter-day Saint understanding of a premortal existence relies mainly on modern-day revelation not found in the Bible. Biblical references to a premortal existence are vague. For those who do not believe in a premortal existence, passages that seem clear to Latter-day Saints as referring to such a concept are easily interpreted differently. However, the concept of a premortal existence is also not in conflict with the Bible.
