Abuse Charges

Martha Nibley Beck is the daughter of well-known LDS scholar Hugh Nibley. After writing a book in which they described how to renounce homosexuality through the gospel, Beck and her husband, John C. Beck, eventually 'came out of the closet' and announced that John was gay and Martha was a lesbian. They have since divorced.

Beck has more recently gained notoriety for her accusations that she was sexually molested by her father. The Nibley family strongly disputes this, and Beck has been roundly denounced by her ex-husband and others for what they claim is her book's distortion of facts. Beck's tale has also been challenged because of its involvement with recovered memories of abuse.
