Paul was sending this epistle because there appeared to be some apostasy growing already. We agree that preaching “another gospel” is bad. A very common quick criticism of the church is Galatians 1:8. It is implied that Joseph Smith could not have had a real angelic visit from God.
“But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.” Galatians 1꞉8
Here is how critics must interpret this scripture:
1. Angelic visitations cannot happen any longer
2. New revelation is forbidden
3. Preaching “any other gospel” will bring a curse
Angels continued to appear to people after Galatians was written about 50 A.D.
Acts 8꞉26, Acts 10꞉3, Acts 12꞉7, Acts 12꞉23, Acts 27꞉23,24, also a revelation about the future:
And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people Rev 14꞉6
If Galatians 1:8 bans new revelation, Paul broke his own rule every time he wrote another epistle” – "Latter-Day Saint Dad" on X
Paul was sending this epistle because there appeared to be some apostasy growing already. We agree that preaching “another gospel” is bad. We believe that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has the true gospel.
But here is how Paul’s defined the gospel:
Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, … Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: 1 Corinthians 15꞉1-4
By this definition, all Christian religions qualify.
