Question: Does the mistaken "discovery" of cold fusion by Pons and Fleishman in Utah reflect on Mormon gullibility, inability to do science, or dishonesty?
Neither Pons or Fleishman is LDS, and the University of Utah is not controlled or owned by the Church
The so-called "cold fusion" was reported by Stanley Pons and Martin Fleischman at the University of Utah on 23 March 1988. Neither Pons or Fleishman is LDS, and the University of Utah is not controlled or owned by the Church.
This is often an attempt to poison the well via guilt by association.
In this case, however, the charge is problematic, since neither researcher or their institution had anything to do with "Mormonism."
