RICHARD ABANES:
You know, Hank, you know that we can’t look at people as Christians just because they may behave Christian-like, in other words, maybe they don’t steal, they don’t kill, they’re kind to their fellowman, they have good families. That’s great, that’s wonderful but this doesn’t make them Christian. We have to ask ourselves has any of the doctrines truly changed with regard to God, Jesus Christ, salvation, these essentials of the faith and if they haven’t then Mormonism is still not Christian. In fact, when Mormonism started Hank, the Prophets and the Apostles, and the priests of Mormonism, very, very strongly made it a point that they were not Christian. That was the big thing, that’s what drew people into the Church to say Christianity, Christendom is wrong, it’s bankrupt, it’s devilish, it’s under the control of Satan so you need to become a Mormon, the restored Church. So there was a time when they knew they weren’t Christian, they accepted that, but now the whole public relation thing has happened and they’re trying to blend in with mainstream Christianity.
The Truth about the LDS Position on Being Christian:
- Are Mormons Christians?—Are Mormons Christians? Do they worship Jesus Christ? Critics use self-serving categories to deny that members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints worship and revere Jesus. (Link)
- Have Mormons claimed only recently to be Christians?—Early members of the Church and their enemies have long referred to them as Christians. The recent efforts of some extremist Protestants to deny Mormon’s status as Christians cannot alter these facts. (Link)
